Koh
Samui island
is one of the
absolute top tourist destinations in Thailand.
Using the Ko Samui island ring road leads to
great Samui beaches, a waterfall and maybe you see a
coconut monkey on the way, the coast road is the
destination to breathtaking panoramas.
Samui weather follows
the usual weather pattern in Thailand, November to
April rather dry, the other time rain from time to
time, very similar to Phuket, Ko Phangan and the all
other places in southern Thailand. There are plenty
of Koh Samui hotels, and Ko Samui Villas, Samui is
not a cheap destination such as partly Phuket.
Bangkok Koh Samui is usually to routing for
travelers coming to Samui, flights to Samui are
rather expensive since Samui airport is owned by the
same company as Bangkok Airways and this almost
monopol cost money. But there is an alternative,
taking the Bus Bangkok Samui takes a couple of hours
but is much cheaper but it needs several hours more
travel time for Bangkok Samui since also the ferry
trip from Surat Thani to the island takes a while.
The ferry to Samui island also carries car, trucks
etc.
Plenty of Koh Samui
hotels, beach resorts, Samui bungalows and villas
are available. The best known beach
is Chaweng beach with plenty of hotels and
restaurants, there are plenty of beach restaurants
where they placed the tables and the chairs right
into the sand, its very romantic. You can do Ko
Samui diving, take a elephant ride, maybe
watch the coconut monkeys when the pick the coconuts
form the palm trees, have a swing in the basin of a
waterfall or just lay down on the beach and let the
sun do the work for a great suntan, but be careful
otherwise it will be a not so pleasant sunburn. Rent
a small motorbike to move around, but be very
careful in Thailand nobody cares about traffic

accidents are many and
whatever happen at an accident they always put the
blame on the foreigner, even if the accident
situation clearly points to the local they always
twist it to blame the foreigner, that has something
to do with money. Enjoy your Koh Samui holiday maybe
on Chaweng beach end be careful since there are
plenty of people offering all kind of stuff for
smocking and swallowing, DONT do it, this is at 90%
junk and a real health problem comes over you
afterwards.
Hot nightlife and beach parties (most famous are the
monthly Full Moon Parties) are a top attraction.
Myriads
of restaurants on Koh Samui (some right on the
beach) with the usual wide selection of tasty
seafood, curries, white meat and red meat give you
any reason to be happy. Koh Samui Bars are plenty and a might-be companion is
almost for sure waiting there for some action.
Moving around the island is quite easy. Rent a car
or a “motocyc” and use the ring road which will leads automatically to most of the scenic spots on Koh
Samui. Koh
Samui Thailand
has around 45 000 permanent
residents and the true locals have their roots in
the Malay Peninsula and in southern China. It is not
known when they first came to the island.
Koh Samui lies adjacent
to the small archipelago of
Ang Thong National Marine Park
in the Gulf of southern Thailand just off Surat
Thani province.
Samui has a great
atmosphere and is a busy spot like many other
Islands in Thailand. Driving along the circular road
either by a rented car or rented motor bike will
continuously open great views towards the emerald
sea. Aside of the great beach scenery Koh Samui is
quite often a big
helter skelter where an almost uncontrolled market
economy broke free. There are
myriads of hotels, beach resorts, bungalows, cottages, apartments,
villas and so on waiting for the tourists, many of
the them are right on the beachfront and you can just walk
from your room into the sea without having to cross a road. |

Accommodation at Koh Samui is available for almost every budget level,
but don't try to sleep on the beach you might experience a
painful wake up.
If you come to party you are on the right spot, Koh
Samui and Koh
Phangan turn the heat on at the legendary full moon beach parties
and Koh Samui parties are for sure not only at full moon, it's on
every day.
Other kind of amusement and entertainment from girls to
popular mouth watering bars are on, so are countless restaurants
and bars, some right on Koh Samui Chaweng Beach and other beaches.
The best time to visit Koh
Samui is between November and March,
actually the rainy season at Kho Samui follows a little different
schedule as Phuket and other

places in southern Thailand since Koh Samui is within the
Gulf of Thailand and not off the Thai coast like the
Andaman
Sea.
The temperature at Kho Samui is always hovering around 30
degree Centigrade. In 2006 Koh Samui had over a million visitors
about 900,000 being foreign travelers. There are about 300
hotels with 8000 rooms and more to come.

Koh Samui lush tropical vegetation

The most popular and longest beach area on
Koh Samui is Chaweng Beach on the East coast. A large white-sand
beach with plenty of beach resorts, restaurants
and a hot nightlife
Some great
waterfalls on Koh Samui invite for a splash in the basin or maybe watch a monkey show where the small monkey
rush up the coconut palm and harvest coconuts.
Koh Samui is not only for jump and splash visitors, some come and
never leave, or maybe only to
Ranong on the visa run.
More and more
people encounter Koh Samui as a retirement destination moving in to
have a life near the beach or elsewhere, its affordable, offers a
reasonable infrastructure -ok I know it could be better- but what
can we do?
Very popular are elephants rides in the still
dense tropical jungle, its more a mixed jungle with
tress and bamboo thickets. Tropical life with lush vegetation, good food, nice beaches and so
on, it's the right place to have a good life, but take enough money
with you, don't think you can make a living in Koh Samui beaches
there is not much to work for western guys and gals.
Healthcare is
also not so bad and quite lower priced than in Europe, US etc. but
healthcare prices are moving upwards quite quickly.
Things to
enjoy are not only some diving in the emerald waters around Koh
Samui, one could also explore the many islands around with pristine,
hidden beaches. Some attractive waterfalls -nam tok-
in Thai and a untouched vegetation, on the islands
off Koh Samui and on some parts on Koh Samui itself
are to be explored.
Some parts of Koh Samui are still calm with a emerald water front,
white to yellow beaches so the attraction to move in is permanent.
But keep in mind Koh
Samui might be not your tropical paradise, its
very back to earth business.
Northern Koh Samui
and the Southwest of Koh Samui are new tourist
hotspots.

The little problem this days is that the whole
island is extremely over commercialized,
unfortunately the people don't know when enough is
enough. This applies especially to the only airline
flying to the island and make flights from
Bangkok to Koh Samui the most expensive ones to any
destination in Thailand, the philosophy behind this behavior is a
very simple one, since 95% of all visitors to Koh
Samui are
foreigners, ..milk the foreigner.
There are so many other attractive holiday
destinations in Thailand like Phuket, Krabi, Trang
... actually Trang is the best of all, they are just
not able to market themselves properly
Bangkok Air charged not long ago a
airport tax of about US$ 50,- when using Koh Samui airport, the
foreigners had no choice since there is only one airport and it
belongs to Bangkok Air.
Keep one thing in mind when you consider to choose
Koh Samui and the area around for your holiday, its a extreme
material world.
Construction works in Koh Samui are going on since several years,
villas, houses, condos, with our without pools are on 24 hours
almost everywhere, not cheap stuff and one should keep in mind that
in Koh Samui like elsewhere in Thailand foreigners cant own land. So
if foreigner wants to buy some property peculiar legal
constructions are needed, inviting some funny games to pull money
from the buyer. If you
think maybe to move in with a local girlfriend, be very careful, it
happens all the time that after all legal works is done, the girl
has all homework finished, she will drop you a paper to move out and
come in with her Thai boy friend who was hidden in the back or just
sell the stuff, move back to Isaan and have enough money for the
rest of here life. You have no chance to challenge this in legal
terms.

Travel to Koh
Samui.
The airport at Koh Samui was built by Bangkok Airways and
managed until recently by the airline, Samui airport has
been transferred to the Samui Airport Property Fund,
partially owned by Bangkok Airways. Since Koh Samui airport was opened , high fares to Koh
Samui by Bangkok Airways and relative high airport tax
turned the destination into a virtual tourism ghetto pushing
up prices in the hotel and service industry.
Domestic travelers to Samui tumbled to levels unseen in
other Thai sea resort destinations. According to
official statistics from the Tourism Authority of Thailand,
Samui island domestic visitors represented in 2006 only
15.36 percent of all arrivals; in Phuket, domestic visitors
still make up to 35.9 percent of all arrivals and even 45.7
percent in Krabi, figure are from beginning of 2008. The airport built entirely by Bangkok Airways, is
said to be one of the most expensive in Thailand with
charges equal at least to the ones asked at the new Bangkok
Suvarnabhumi airport. Naturally Bangkok Air fares are also
always the highest in Thailand, they strategically try to
corner the market and ask monopolistic prices after, that is
for Koh Samui and also for Siem Reap in Cambodia where
Bangkok Air has the monopole under a different name.
It is very easy to reach Koh Samui by bus from anywhere
in Thailand for about Baht 500,- from Bangkok. There is
also a excellent and quick ferry service from Surat Thai’s
Don Sak a few kilometers from Surat Thani City. Don Sak is
also the starting point for Koh Phangan.
